Parting from 2012 can seem bittersweet. Although we’re ready to welcome a new year, Atrium would like to make a countdown of just a few what we feel were the 10 most memorable moments of the year 2012:
1. Best Opening: The Barclays Center
The long-awaited opening of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn couldn’t have been a more to do, officially opening with a 8 night performance of the one and only Jay-Z. Located just a few blocks away from our Brooklyn store, we are thrilled to invite the Stadium to the hood and are gearing up for the Nets season!
2. Most Dramatic Couple: Chris Brown and Rihanna
Leave it to Chris Brown and Rihanna to stir up the talk of the town once again. The couple, who have caused quite the controversy due to Brown’s history of abuse and infidelity, exchanged a kiss during the 2012 VMA’s. Maybe he was turned on like the rest of America with Rihanna’s new album cover….just a thought.
3. Best Song Collaboration: Mercy
The collaboration of American hip hop recording artist Kanye West along with debuted MERCY featuring GOOD Music rappers Big Sean and Pusha T along with their Def Jam label-mate. The song made top charts in addition to becoming sole inspiration for Kim Kardashian’s recently deceased kitten.
4. Anticipated Celebrity Baby-Mama: Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose
American rapper Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose confirm their pregnancy. After a previous miscarriage, we’re glad to see the couple looking happy and are anticipating some new baby daddy inspired songs to release in the future.
5. Biggest Devastation: The Sandy’s
All we can say is Sandy was certainly a bitch this year. From the hurricane that destroyed 43,000 homes and loss of $60 billion dollars to the horrifying shooting at Sandy Hook last Friday which killed 26 innocent children and teachers; we know this name will forever be engraved in our minds.
6. Best Atrium Collaboration: PRPS Jeans Co
With our numerous collaborations it was very hard to pick one as our favorite, but at the end of the day it came down to our most recent collaboration with PRPS Japan. Not only was this exclusive custom-made but also limited edition with various Atrium stampings throughout the product. Even better each product came in a custom denim bag. We cant even begin to describe the washing techniquies and eloquently engineering that took place here.
7. Biggest Government Surprise: Colorado Legalized Marijuana!
Although it seems like a long time coming for the flower-power state, November’s election finally made it official – Marijuana is finally illegal! So now the state, which statistically has more marijuana distilleries than Starbucks, won’t have to hide in fear. Thank you Governor John Hickenlooper! Now what about New York?
8. Favorite Line: Rag & Bone
Rag & Bone keeps on astonishing us year after year, with this year earning their place as our favorite line of 2012. Their classic tailoring mixed with a very New York driven edge aesthetically has made every piece a buyers dream.
9. Best Sneaker Release: Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 Blue Steel
The name says it all- ”Steel Blue.”- The Ronnie Fieg x New Balance 999 was an easy pick for us. From the high-quality fabrics to the monochromatic color wave this shoe was a guaranteed success. When it comes to sneakers as we all know Ronnie is the man and “Steel Blue” is a clear example of that.
10. Best New Dance Move: Gangham Style
Goodbye Duggie HELLO Gangnam Style. But really, the beat is contagious. With the most watched YouTube video in history this song had become a hit overnight. South Korean musician Psy’s Gangnam Style song is associated with upscale fashion and lavish lifestyle associated with trendsetters- no wonder why we love it!
